ROOM ONE: CIRCLES

My first selection consists of circular works. The choice is inspired by the fact that I used a detail of one of them for my frontpage, which is a close up of a work called “Diepe gronden”. The title comes from the Dutch proverb “Stille waters, diepe gronden” (“Quiet waters, deep grounds”). Below, the work in its entirety.

Diepe Gronden (1988) 35 inches diameter. Mixed media on metal, christmas lights, mirrors.
I used two mirrors (one see-through) to create a feeling of depth.

Below, four works I called “Indian maps”. You never know where they might lead you to.

Indian Map North (1989, with later changes). 29 inches diameter. Mixed media on wood, rope.

Indian Map West (1986) 35 inches diameter. Mixed media on wood.

Indian Map East (1991) 28 inches diameter. Mixed media on wood

Indian Map South (1990, with later changes). 25 inches diameter. Mixed media on wood.

I end this series with a more recent work, for which I scraped melted plastic of a burned garbage bin from the pavement and glued it on found wood, added different found objects, and worked it with acrylic paint and copper dust, set in acrylic medium and oxidated.

Hunting the wild chickens (2009) 34 inches wide. Mixed media on wood.

That’s it for this week. Hope you’ll visit again!
